Locate and shoot/cook two Dovelets(tm) and collect the roasted birds. They can be found in Dove Caves around the map. Enemies never associate with Dovelets so their caves are safe areas. Enemies will always appears from rifts in the other caves, if you have to, kill them by shooting them. Be warned though eventually RED Skulls will be all that are left and they CANNOT be killed!!! Get out a fast as you can. 

Warning! there are RED caves which only spawn RED Skulls! Dangerous places, do not hang around here!

Once you have the two Dovelets, take them to the centre of the Undercave Kingdom to the ENER tree itself. Drop them in the pool at the heart of the tree (they'll be digested swiftly). Once delivered the ENER tree will produce some unwanted lifeforce in one of the Dove Caves, find it and collect it (it will fill the gauge on the right). Then find two more Dovelets. Repeat until you fill the gauge! Then go to the ENER tree one last time and feed him all the lifeforce energy!!!

One more thing. Stomach acid is not unlimited!! SQIJ needs to replenish the acidity every so often. In most caves there is a fizzy pool. Jump in these and his acidity will start to replenish. Don't get caught with an empty stomach when enemies are around, its embarrassing. ;)
